Version 1, 03/2008, for FS2004 only.

We have produced this scenery to provide taxiways and details
as they were around 1961 in Bangkok
We have also included new parking to allow the AI aircraft to taxi
correctly at the new (old!) airport.

The airport was officially opened as a Royal Thai Air Force base
on March 27, 1914, although it had been in use earlier.
Commercial flights started in 1924.
Don Mueang Airport closed in 2006 following the opening
of Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport.
After some problems at Suvarnabhumi, flights resumed
at Don Mueang on March 24, 2007.

The airfield was the second in Thailand, after Sa Pathum,
which was actually a part of the Sa Pathum horse racing course.
The first flights to Don Mueang were made on March 8, 1914 and
involved the transfer of aircraft of the Royal Thai Air Force.
In 1911 Thailand had sent three army officers to France to train as pilots.
On completion of their training, the pilots had been authorized
to purchase four Breguets and four Nieuports,
which formed the basis of the Royal Thai Air Force.

Commercial service to Don Mueang began in 1924.
The first commercial flight was an arrival by KLM.

The airfield was used by the Japanese during World War II,
and was bombed and strafed by Allied aircraft on several occasions.

During the Vietnam War, Don Muang Royal Thai Air Force Base was a
major command and logistics hub of the United States Air Force.

Before the opening of Suvarnabhumi, the airport used the IATA airport code BKK
and the name was spelled Don Muang. After Suvarnabhumi opened for
commercial flights, the spelling was changed and as Don Mueang
it now uses the airport code DMK, though it still retains the ICAO airport code VTBD.

AI propliner traffic matching this scenery is available separately
from www.calclassic.com (AI Aircraft page).

If you do not have another airport texture addon, I suggest that you
download and install airland1.zip from AVSIM or elsewhere.
It increases frame rates while adding detail to
the concrete and asphalt aprons, taxiways, and runways.

Airstairs object originally by John MacKay,
simplified for AI use by Tom Gibson. Thanks again!
(only visible if Calclassic Core Files are installed and activated )

You may want to print out these instructions and check off each
step as you finish it.

INSTALLATION

1. Quit FS2004 if running.

2. Unzip this VTBD 1961 Bangkok Intl. Don Muang file archive into a temporary folder.
You will find this text file and a folder called VTBD 1961 Bangkok Intl. Don Muang.

3. Copy the VTBD 1961 Bangkok Intl. Don Muang folder to your FS2004/Addon Scenery
folder.

4. Start FS2004, and go to the Settings/Scenery Library choice on the
opening screen. If you are currently flying, press Escape (Esc) and
then End Flight to get to this screen.
Look at the top portion of the list.
If there is no VTBD 1961 Bangkok Intl. Don Muang area listed there,
click on the Add Area button. Double click the ADDON SCENERY folder
and then Click the VTBD 1961 Bangkok Intl. Don Muang folder once. Click OK.

5. If you have not already installed the EZ-Scenery and Rwy12 Static Objects Library
(look for a Static Objects Library layer in this list),
please download and install it.

6. If you have any other addon scenery for Bangkok, uncheck
the scenery's Active box to inactivate it.
Or if you wish to use it as well,
move it's entry above the VTBD 1961 Bangkok Intl. Don Muang scenery areas
and leave it checked.
Parts of Bangkok Airport may not appear in this case.

7. Click OK. Quit and restart FS.

8. If at the main screen, choose Create Flight at the left,
select desired items, and press Fly Now.
Choose Options/Settings/Display.
Under Scenery Objects set the Scenery Density to Dense or less
(setting to Very or Extremely Dense will display modern jetways
at default airports).
Also, set the Autogen Density to Normal
(any higher will display telephone poles in odd places at
various airports); this will also simulate the less dense
cities found in the era. Click OK.

If you have a less powerful computer and you get low frame rates,
try setting the Scenery Density to Normal or lower.
This will remove detail objects and improve the frame rate.

9. If you later want to fly in the modern era, just go into the Scenery
Library (Settings/Scenery Library) and click on the Enabled box next
to the VTBD 1961 Bangkok Intl. Don Muang entry until the red check mark is removed
to deactivate the 1961 scenery.
(do not deactivate the Static Objects Library layer).
Activate any other inactivated addon scenery areas for Bangkok.
Click OK.
You must restart FS after you do all of this.

Reverse this process again to go back to VTBD 1961 Bangkok Intl. Don Muang.
